Restoring the Walker City Rock Garden
From the Pilot-Independent, Walker, MN

July 14, 2000

On July 4, renovations were almost completed and drawing praise from dozens of visitors who strolled down paths through the flower beds. The flowers were in full bloom, the garden paths were cleared and clipped.  The trickling woodland waterfall and pool had been rebuilt and was gurgling again.

Although many residents have loved and cared for the rock garden since it was created in 1935, one couple recently did something more. Grant and Kris Oppegaard have donated an unspecified amount to the city to hire a horticulturist to maintain the garden and continue to plan for its future....

Daniel Dix, owner of WoodSpirit™ Water Gardens of Backus, drafted a proposal for restoring the garden to its natural aesthetic, while conserving electricity and water, which was accepted by the city.
