Email from Hank McKinney sent to us September 08, 2003. See this project in our Virtual tour.
Daniel, First of all, let me start by telling how pleased we are with your contributions to our north-woods home. You responded quickly to our call and provided excellent advice on what you thought should be done in the way of landscaping and to creating a water garden that we would be able to enjoy for the years to come. You were very forthright in your opinions regarding what would look right for our setting and what belonged in Edina! We appreciate the advice more than you can imagine. The water garden is truly a work of art. We appreciated your design of the ponds and waterfall and toms efforts in finding the right plants and placing them in the correct setting. Finding and placing an old tree stump and moss covered logs to accent the pond were inspired, and although I was skeptical at first, these items really make a difference and they enhance the natural feel of the ponds and waterfall. The plants that Tom placed around the house and again the natural setting of these plants among the rocks and logs are also works of art. Mary and I have since collected many like natural specimens that we think we will add to the setting that you created for us.
The steps from the deck down to the patio also create a very natural feel and were definitely needed to enhance the safety of attempting to navigate this slope. You were right when you said that we would quickly get used to taking the long way down to the lake, and even our dog Charley is getting used to the stairs on his daily trips down to the lake for a swim. Your team of Tom, Phillip, Eric and TJ were superb and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of them. But it takes a leader to make a team gel and you are certainly one of the best in that regard. May I extend my compliments and congratulations. In the Navy, when a fleet maneuver is executed particularly well, the Admiral sends a message by flag hoist that reads BZ or using Navy phonetic alphabet, Bravo Zulu which is very high accolade. So let me close this missive with a very simple, but heart felt, BRAVO ZULU.
