Pond in a Day

republished from September 20, 2002 issue of the
Brainerd Daily Dispatch

Central Lakes College hosted a pond construction workshop Tuesday at the Living Legacy Gardens near Staples, giving participants an opportunity to create a piece of what has become a peaceful oasis dedicated to nature. Daniel Dix of WoodSpirit Water Gardens, Backus, directed the daylong project. Students from the CLC landscape technology program assisted, as did Mike and Becky Roelofs of Meadowbrook Landscaping, Motley. With a maximum depth of about three feet and circulation of 8,000 gallons of water per hour, the pond complements a floral array, gazebo and fruit tree orchard demonstrating varieties that flourish in this region's climate.
